Just a few points: 1) you should never touch a sterile catheter with your bare hands. Always put some sterile surgical gloves on and only touch the catheter with those, don't touch anything else. If you get bacteria on the catheter and it gets into your bladder you are in big trouble, 2) you need to use way more lube when it goes in, not just the first few inches - add more as it goes in, all the way up the length, 3) if you put it all the way in, leave it in until you are done then remove it completely. Don't pull it part way out and put it in again, and definitely never re-use one.
